Sweedish Meatballs

 

Meatballs:
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
1 cup cream
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cardamon
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. allspice

Gravy:
2 tbsp flour
1 can condensed beef broth
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 tsp instant coffee
3/4 cup sour cream
 

Soak bread in cream for about 5 mins. Mix together meats, onion, crumb mixture, egg and seasonings. Form into balls. Brown in 2 tbsp butter in a baking skillet to keep balls round. Remove. Make gravy: Stir flour into drippings, add broth, water and coffee. Heat until thickened. Add sour cream and stir. Return meatballs to gravy. Cover. Cook slowly about 20 mins, basting occasionally.
